Think of the Mica Rat Tail less like a traditional rear rack and more like a better way to carry your bikepacking drybag.

Designed specifically as an alternative to a large saddle bag, the Rat Tail provides a lightweight and exceptionally stable platform for carrying a 6–9" (15–23 cm) diameter drybag behind your saddle. At just 410 g including its mounting hardware, it creates a remarkably efficient cargo system while eliminating much of the sway and movement associated with oversized seat packs.

Even better, it leaves your dropper post fully usable.

That's a big deal for riders whose bikepacking routes include technical singletrack, steep descents and rough terrain. Instead of choosing between carrying capacity and getting your saddle out of the way, the Rat Tail lets you have both.

Its clever mounting system is another standout feature. The Rat Tail doesn't require conventional threaded rack eyelets. An included clamp attaches at the seatpost or seat tube, while dedicated mounting blocks secure the lower struts to the seat stays. That makes it possible to add a stable bikepacking platform to a huge range of hardtails, rigid mountain bikes and adventure bikes that weren't originally designed around a rear rack.

And the Rat Tail can carry more than just the drybag sitting on top. Three-pack mounts on each vertical stay provide additional attachment points for bottle cages, cargo cages and other accessories, giving you more options for distributing gear around the bike.

Constructed from 4130 chromoly steel tubing, the rack is impressively minimal without being delicate. It can support up to 10 kg of cargo, yet the whole system weighs less than many large seat packs once their mounting hardware is taken into account.

For riders building a lightweight bikepacking setup—especially around a mountain bike or dropper-equipped adventure bike—the Rat Tail is a genuinely clever alternative to the usual saddle bag.
