One of the secrets behind Secret Chain Blend's performance is its unique mix of four types of wax, unlike most hot wax products that only use paraffin. This blend, combined with SILCA's proprietary WS2, has kept Secret Chain Blend at the top of the ZeroFrictionCycling charts for three years, with many competitors attempting to reformulate to match its performance but none succeeding.

The four-wax mix has allowed SILCA to create what it considers the best overall combination of high performance, dirt resistance, and application longevity. However, after years of working with professional gravel athletes, WorldTour teams, and Olympic medalists, the demand for custom wax formulations for specific events or situations became clear. Rather than producing endless custom blends, in early 2024, SILCA started shipping two different wax additive kits to athletes and teams to test new formulations based on their needs.

The challenge in formulating waxes is that the fastest, most exotic waxes often don’t last as long, while the most durable waxes aren’t as fast. Instead of developing new blends for each event, SILCA empowered athletes to create their own formulations. The results have been remarkable, with more than 100 victories in WorldTour, Lifetime Grand Prix, the Olympics, and more.

This system allows athletes to optimize their waxes based on specific needs. Whether they want a training wax that lasts 600 km, a race wax that has won multiple Tour de France stages, or an ultra-fast time trial wax for a 40 km TT, SILCA provides the solution.

Initially referred to as 'Wax Doping,' this process has evolved into what SILCA now calls 'Wax Optimization.' Introducing SpeedChip and EnduranceChip, wax optimization agents that allow cyclists to blend the perfect wax for their specific needs.

SpeedChip: SpeedChip is a fully synthetic wax produced from the same exotic base oils used in SILCA Synergetic. It is the fastest wax ever used in a cycling lubricant, blended with three sizes of sub-micron and nanoscale Tungsten Disulfide platelets to further reduce friction and enhance anti-wear properties. Testing shows it can permanently increase chain efficiency by up to 0.6% over SILCA SecretBlend hot melt. The only downside is that it requires more frequent lubrication intervals (see chart for more details).

EnduranceChip: EnduranceChip is a semi-synthetic wax blend designed for ultimate durability, featuring some of the longest molecular chain lengths possible in a wax. Adding EnduranceChip to SecretBlend can extend the distance between re-waxing by as much as 2.5 times (up to 750 km) while remaining as fast as the top wet lubricants and significantly faster than any dry lubricant.
