Fatbikes are fun! With their wide tires and wide rims, you're able to ride with a lower pressure to give you better flotation over soft ground, like snow! In Toronto there are lots of places nearby like Durham forest and Hardwood Hills that groom trails specifically for fatbikes in the winter. That means you can still ride fun trails with lots of confidence all year round.
We think the Bigfoot 1 is one of the best offerings out there, because of a few things:
1. Standover clearance - Super important on fatbikes. When you're riding in the woods in the winter, you never really know where the ground will be super soft or nice and packed down, so having an extra bit of room there can be really helpful.
2. A good 1 x drivetrain - Aside from simplicity, only having one chainring in the front of a fatbike often allows for a larger tire to be run. With a direct mount race face chainring/crankset and a cassette with a super wide range in the back, this is a no hassle combination.
3. A great tire spec - There's....a lot of rubber that goes into a fatbike tire, so keeping the weight down so it doesn't feel like you're pedaling a tractor can drive the prices pretty high. So having a great tire spec right out of the gate is important. The Schwalbe Jumbo Jim tires that come with the Bigfoot 1 are among the lightest and fastest rolling out there.
4. Tubeless ready out of the gate - Another plus on this one is that the rim and tire combination is tubeless ready right out of the gate. Less a flat saving technique and more a weight saving bonus, by just adding tape and sealant (which we already have at Dismount), you can take out those gigantic tubes and save over A POUND of weight per wheel, making them that much more fun to turn the pedals.
Come check it out in store if you have a chance, or if you know this is the bike you're looking for, you can purchase it online and come pick it up anytime.
